TV Drama

Definition: TV Drama can also be termed fictional television narrative.

Form: TV Drama forms include:

• One-off drama
• Two-part drama
• Drama series
• Continuing drama/soap opera

Genre: Refers to ‘types’ or ‘classifications’ and there are many sub-genres within the genre of TV Drama.

Perspective: A drama will favour one character’s or social group’s perspective over another. For example, soaps tend to favour the female’s perspective over the male’s. Skins favour the youth’s over the adult’s. Shameless favours the working class/underclass worldview.

The way stories are told varies enormously depending on the form, the sub-genre, and the perspective.
